When you receive your new smartphone, nearly all of its information security settings are switched off (except for the PIN code of the SIM card).
Quick help
Below is a list of things you should remember to do or read when deploying your smartphone:
- Change the SIM card pin if you have not already changed it from the default one. By default, the pin code is usually 1234 (Elisa/University of Helsinki subscriptions).
- Set a security code on your phone and enable its query. This way, your phone's information security will be at an even higher level.
- Read the instructions on the secure use of smartphones.
- Remember that the use of the University phones is also governed by the terms of use. The phone, similar to computers, is meant to be used as a tool in studying, research and management. Minor use for personal purposes is allowed. In addition, it is important to remember that storing material that infringes copyrights in a phone or anywhere else in the university is forbidden.
- When installing programmes, you should remember that various additional programmes may cause problems when using the phone. Installing programmes that are not necessary and proven to be safe must be avoided.
Installation instructions for using eduroam, OpenVPN, and University email, among others, can be found in these instructions.
