ArcGIS Desktop will be discontinued on 31 December 2025 – start using ArcGIS Pro now

Access to ArcGIS Desktop software will be discontinued on 31 December 2025, as Esri will no longer provide support for the software. At the University, ArcGIS Pro will replace ArcGIS Desktop, and you can start using it now on both your centrally administered University Windows computer and your own home computer.

The IT Center upgraded ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro on the University’s centrally managed computers in March 2025

  • If you have previously installed ArcGIS Pro on your centrally administered University Windows computer, the upgrade will have been installed automatically and you do not need to install it yourself. After the upgrade, the software will ask you to log in the first time it is launched – log in to the service according to the following instructions.
  • If you have not previously installed ArcGIS Pro on your centrally administered University Windows computer, but want to start using it, install ArcGIS Pro from Software Center. After the installation, log in to the service according to the following instructions.
  • You can also install ArcGIS Pro on your home computer. See the instructions at the end of this bulletin.

Instructions for the deployment of ArcGIS Pro software on the University's centrally administered Windows computers

ArcGIS Pro will ask you to log in to the service the first time you launch it. Log in to the service as follows:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro and select UH ArcGIS Online SAML login in the window that opens.
  2. Select Use Desktop Login in the view that opens to use single sign-on. You can also enter your University username and password separately if you wish.

Instructions for installing ArcGIS Pro software on your home computer

  1. Go to the University Download Centre and select Request software on the ArcGIS Pro & Drone2Map row. Accept the terms of use ( Accept EULA ) and select Submit -> In the window that opens, select Download.
  2. On the help page that opens, go to https://unihel.maps.arcgis.com and select UH ArcGIS Online SAMLlogin for new users to log in to the ArcGIS Online service.
  3. Click on your profile picture at the top right of the ArcGIS Online service -> select My settings -> Licenses -> Download ArcGIS Pro to download the program.
  4. Launch the downloaded ArcGis Pro installer and install the program.
  5. Launch the program and select UH ArcGIS Online SAML login for new users to log in.
