The Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) service for Windows will be discontinued at the University on Wednesday, 12 November 2025 at 8 AM. The service will be discontinued due to its low use rate and to save on costs.
The VDI virtual desktop service will still be available to you after the AVD service has been discontinued. With the VDI virtual desktop, you can use services requiring University login from your home computer, for example. You can also use the University’s services from your home computer or mobile device with an eduVPN connection. In addition, the international eduroam network is available to you at the University’s campuses.
Laptop Lenders also serve you at the campuses. There, you can borrow a laptop for 1, 4 or 8 hours at a time. At the campuses, the laptops work in buildings owned by the University. The laptops host a wide range of software that is more comprehensive than the range offered by the discontinued AVD service.
