Support for Cubbli 20 will end in May 2025. Upgrade your operating system to Cubbli 24 when you receive an upgrade notification on your University Linux computer. Note that only upgrade-ready Linux computers receive the upgrade. If you are using an older Linux computer, please see instructions for IT recycling and making a purchase request for a new computer in this bulletin.
If you have an operating system that is earlier than Cubbli 24 on your University Linux computer
- You will receive a notification and installation instructions when the upgrade is ready to be installed once you have logged in to your computer.
- You can upgrade your Cubbli 20 or 22 operating system to the Cubbli 24 version either via the University menu (HY menu) or with the terminal command “cubbli-upgrade”. Read Cubbli upgrade instructions
- You can install the upgrade yourself at any time or ask our Linux upgrade team to do it for you.
Important information about the Cubbli 24 upgrade
- Your computer must be plugged in and connected to the internet over a wired or wireless connection throughout the upgrade.
- The upgrade takes less than two hours on average, but it can take considerably longer depending on the speed of your internet connection. For staff computers, we recommend using the University’s wired network.
- The user of the computer is responsible for their own files. Before the upgrade, please make backups of your important files (including those in your home directory) to your network drive or an external hard drive, for example.
- Software that is not installed in the home directory will be removed during the upgrade.
If you are using an old Linux computer that is no longer covered by the University’s centralised management and therefore does not support the Cubbli 24 upgrade
- Contact the person in charge of equipment purchases on your campus (e.g. the service coordinator). Support for Linux computers continues for 12 months from the warranty expiration date. You can check the warranty period in the University menu by clicking on Computer Info.
- Take your end-of-life computer to IT recycling – see IT recycling instructions.
- If you will be getting a new computer, please read the instructions on computer purchases.
- The IT Center extends the useful life of the University’s IT equipment by approximately a third by recycling devices at a stage of their life cycle where they can be resold to the University’s IT recycling partner, 3 Step IT.
