The new eduVPN connection will be available at the University starting from 3 June 2025. The secure and fast eduVPN service will replace OpenVPN, which will be discontinued at the University in the autumn of 2025. Multifactor authentication will be enabled for University eduVPN connections from launch.
EduVPN is a modern and secure VPN connection which is up to 3.5–4 times faster than OpenVPN connections. EduVPN allows you to use University services safely and quickly on your work or home computer – also from outside the University network.
Multi-factor authentication to the eduVPN service takes place when you sign in via single sign-on (SSO) in the same way as for other University services.
Important information about the eduVPN deployment
- NB! Start using eduVPN now, as OpenVPN will be discontinued in autumn 2025. See IT Helpdesk instructions for using eduVPN
- The deployment of eduVPN does not affect the AoVPN (Always on VPN) connection option used on the University staff's Windows computers, which is automatically launched when the VPN connection is established. You can use the AoVPN connection on your centrally managed University Windows computer by following IT Helpdesk instructions
- We will release information on the discontinuation of OpenVPN well in advance during late summer and autumn of 2025.
