New University blogs default theme launches 26 March 2026 – service unavailable from 3 to 6 PM

New default theme: Blogs Helsinki 2026

• After the update, all new blogs will use the new Blogs Helsinki 2026 theme by default. You can also enable the new default theme for your existing blogs through each site’s dashboard.
• The Blogs Helsinki 2026 theme uses a modern block editor instead of the classic editor used in the previous default theme. New quick guides will also be published on the service’s front page to support building your site.
• The visual design of the new default theme is based on the university’s Design System guidelines, with special attention given to accessibility.
• Older themes—such as HelsinkiUni 2017 and earlier University-produced themes—will no longer be offered or supported for blogs created after the update. These themes will, however, remain available for blogs created before the change.
• Supported WordPress default themes will continue to be available to all users.

General updates to the blog service

• The service now has a new support address for questions related to the blog service: blogs@helsinki.fi
• The blog service has a new logo designed by University Services’ Specialist Maija-Reeta Nikkari, which will be used for the first time in the new default theme.
