The Faculty of Science will acquire Windows 11 computers to replace outdated Windows 10 Faculty of Science staff computers during May and June 2025. This applies to Faculty of Science staff Windows 10 computers that are either no longer supported or for which support will end soon, and on which the Windows 11 operating system cannot therefore be installed.
Windows 11 will be taken into use across the University during 2025 because Microsoft will end its support for the Windows 10 operating system in October. See our previous bulletin on Windows 11 updates.
If you are a staff member of the Faculty of Science and you have a Windows desktop purchased before 2020 or a Windows laptop purchased before 2021:
1. You will receive an email with instructions from Kumpula on-site IT support from the address helpdesk@helsinki.fi during April–May 2025.
2. Pick up your new Windows 11 work computer when it arrives and start using it as instructed in the message. Return your old Windows 10 computer at the same time – Kumpula campus adheres to the single work computer policy. NB! Remember to backup your important files before turning in your old computer – users are responsible for their own files.
