The OpenVPN uh-vpn-allroute and uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only connection options will be disabled on centrally managed University computers as of 29 October 2025. These connection options will also cease to work for home users. OpenVPN connections will be replaced by the fast and secure eduVPN connection, which was deployed at the University in the summer of 2025.
Once the OpenVPN connections have been disabled, you will no longer see the uh-vpn-allroute and uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only connections as VPN options on your centrally managed University computer. However, OpenVPN will remain in use in University network services and systems where required due to technical reasons.

EduVPN is a modern and secure VPN connection that provides up to four times faster transfer speeds compared to OpenVPN connections. It allows you to use the University’s services safely and quickly on your work or home computer, including access from outside the University network.

- The eduVPN launch does not affect the AoVPN (Always on VPN) connection option available for University staff Windows 11 computers. When enabled, AoVPN is automatically launched before logging in every time the computer is powered on. Start using AoVPN on your University Windows 11 computer via the IT Helpdesk instructions
- You can use either an eduVPN or AoVPN connection on University Windows 11 computers. Both connection options are fast and secure. Please note: you cannot use both VPN connection options at the same time, so choose either eduVPN or AoVPN.
