The University adopted a new procurement model for computers, phones and peripherals in January 2026

Ingress

The University switched to a new procurement model for computers, phones, monitors and peripherals starting from 1 January 2026. The contract suppliers for IT devices will change due to the tendering process.

Please note!

Due to circumstances outside the University’s control, the transition of suppliers for PC devices (Windows and Cubbli) remains in progress. Currently, Dustin Finland Oy and Lenovo continue to provide PC devices.

For this reason until approx. 30 June 2026:

  • The range of available devices is more limited than usual
  • The delivery time for made‑to‑order products is exceptionally long (4–8 weeks)

If you have questions about the new procurement model for IT devices and phones, or about device purchases, please contact the IT Helpdesk: helpdesk@helsinki.fi

The University’s IT procurement model in a nutshell

  • According to the procurement model, the University procures computers and IT devices centrally to the University’s recommended device selection, from which University community members with contracts to the University receive devices directly for their use without separate approval.
  • The recommended device selection is designed to cover most of the University community’s needs. We strive to ensure that the device models in the selection are as compatible as possible with the University’s IT environment.
  • Computer, phone and IT device orders outside the recommended selection are always paid from the unit’s own funds and require unit approval. These purchase requests follow a separate approval process in which the unit’s procurement‑responsible person approves the request and the IT Centre processes the order.
  • Due to the changes, the University’s PC models (Windows and Linux computers) will shift from previous Lenovo devices to HP devices.
  • The University’s current contract supplier, Dustin Finland Oy, will deliver Lenovo and Apple devices to the University until 28 February 2026 according to our current estimates. After that, Apple computers will be supplied by Atea Oy and PC computers by Marski Data Oy. We will update information on the new device models in the computer procurement guidelines once they are confirmed.
