Windows 7 computers covered by the university’s central administration will be upgraded to Windows 10 during 2019. The upgrade process begins in June and goes on until the end of the year.

The upgrade process takes place because Microsoft’s support for Windows 7 ends in January 2020. This means that no security updates will be available for Windows 7 as of January. Therefore, as of 2 January 2020, the IT Center will block Windows 7 computers from the university network.

If you have a Windows 7 computer:

  • Your unit will decide which of the following courses of action will be taken: you will be given a new computer; the operating system of your computer will be upgraded to Windows 10; your computer will be discarded (for example, if you have multiple computers at your disposal). The person responsible for equipment purchases at your unit will tell you what to do.
  • If your computer is to be upgraded, we recommend that you do the upgrade yourself according to these instructions.
  • If your computer is to be replaced, wait for instructions from your unit.
