Virtual desktop traffic is encrypted, so it is safe to use one even without a vpn connection.
On your own Linux computer, you can use a virtual desktop with a web browser at https://vdi.helsinki.fi. Further details regarding browser-based use are available in the instructions for Windows computers in the chapter The computer has no Horizon Client/home computer.
