Unitube service-wide service break on 2–4 July 2025

24.04.2025 - 11:20
Ingress

There will be a service break in the Unitube video service from Wednesday 2 to Friday 4 July 2025. The break concerns the entire service: Unitube recording and streaming in Unitube lecture rooms and studios, Unitube Uploader and Unitube Viewer on the helsinki.fi website.

The service break is due to a mandatory version update of the backend system Opencast, which will allow us to further develop our Unitube services and introduce new features.

During the service break in the Unitube service, you can use Zoom on your computer in the University’s Unitube lecture rooms. If you want to watch or share Unitube videos during the service break, you can temporarily move your recordings from Unitube Uploader to another service, such as Vimeo or YouTube, before the break.

Multilingual subtitling and other improvements to be added to the service

The update will bring improvements and new features to Unitube. The key feature is the opportunity to add subtitles to the video in several languages (Finnish, Swedish, English) and order an AI-generated base translation.

Some of the improvements have already been published in the Unitube Uploader service. You can browse the improvements to accessibility and usability of the service via the Publication details link in the footer section of Unitube Uploader.

During the service break on 2–4 July 2025

  • Unitube Uploader (lataamo.helsinki.fi) will be unavailable.
  • Unitube Viewer (www.helsinki.fi/unitube) will be unavailable.
  • Unitube recording and streaming in Unitube lecture rooms and studios will be unavailable.
  • The Unitube videos in Moodle will be unavailable.
