Service interruptions in network storage systems (including the P and L network drives) on 24 September 2026 at 7:30–8 AM

During the interruptions, network home directories, profile services, group directories (P network drive), research data directories (L network drive) and NFS shares from network storage systems shown to research servers will be temporarily unavailable.

• The interruptions will last approximately 30 seconds per service. The services may also temporarily operate more slowly than usual.
• Loading file and folder listings, as well as reading and writing files and folders, may also take longer than usual. In addition, logging in to University work computers may temporarily take longer than usual.

The interruptions affect the following centralised storage services:

• network home directory and profile services,
• group directories (P network drive),
• research data directories (L network drive, NFS shares shown to research servers).

More reliable and faster data transfer for file servers

With this change, the IT Centre will redirect the network-attached storage (NAS) networks’ routing to the University’s data centre network devices. Until now, campus routers have served as routers for these networks. By redirecting the routing, we will prevent congestion in the University’s core network for traffic that is limited solely within University data centres.

In addition, the latest network interface controllers in new devices are becoming faster and data transfer rates between storage systems continue to increase. The change will therefore prepare us for future changes in the network environment and fortify the reliability of the University’s network storage systems. The file servers’ network connections will also become faster with these changes.
