Keep your university Windows laptop updated with OpenVPN

It is important to keep your university Windows laptop updated while working remotely to maintain information security. University Windows laptops outside the university network will only update via VPN. An internet connection alone is not enough, as the computer does not receive the software and information security updates without a VPN connection.

Please note: Mac and Linux computers receive updates without VPN!

• Even if your work does not require a VPN connection, launch OpenVPN once a week in order to ensure your laptop receives necessary software updates. You should stay connected via VPN for a few hours. Read Helpdesk OpenVPN instructions.
• You can check the status of VPN connections on the University Status page, under “Staff tools”. If possible, connect to OpenVPN at a time when connections are not in high demand.
