An extensive university network service break will occur at Viikki Campus on Tuesday 12 May 2020. The service work will continue throughout the day, during which time intermittent breaks and slow connections may occur. The service break may briefly affect servers located in the Viikki server room. We therefore recommend performing any tasks on these servers, such as updates and publishing, after the service break.

Intermittent slow connections and breaks may also occur during the following few days after the service break due to maintenance work. The service break is due to renewal work on the university core network conducted by the University of Helsinki IT Center. We are conducting the renewal work during 2020 in order to bring the university network up to date and to ensure optimal stability and performance.

During the service break Tuesday 12 May 2020:

  • Wired and wireless network connections will not work or intermittent disruptions occur at the Viikki Campus.
  • The service break may briefly affect servers located in the Viikki server room. Please schedule any actions on these servers, such as updates and publishing, at another time after the service break. If the service break window is problematic for your research, please contact: helpdesk@helsinki.fi
  • After the service break we will conduct further maintenance work during the following few days as needed. During this time short network breaks and slow connections may occur.
  • Remote connections to devices at the Viikki Campus will not work during the service break
  • If you are working at the Viikki Campus during the service break, you can use e.g. the hotspot functionality of your mobile device and OpenVPN to connect your computer to the Internet and use services limited to the university network. Read Helpdesk OpenVPN instructions.
  • If you notice any issues after 13 May, please let us know at helpdesk@helsinki.fi
