Tunnelblick client application will be removed from university Mac computers 2 April 2026 due to a security vulnerability

The client application Tunnelblick, used to establish OpenVPN connections on Mac computers, will be centrally removed from all University Mac devices in the afternoon of 2 April 2026. The removal is due to a security vulnerability detected in the Tunnelblick application.

Note! We will send a targeted email with instructions to university staff known to be using the Tunnelblick client application today, 2 April 2026.

I use Tunnelblick on my Mac – what do I need to do?

  • If you still need OpenVPN connectivity on your Mac, you must download the Tunnelblick client application again from the Managed Software Center after the centralized removal.
  • You may also need to download new configuration files for OpenVPN to ensure the connection works through Tunnelblick. In that case, please contact the IT Helpdesk: helpdesk@helsinki.fi
