The National Cyber Security Centre has reported critical vulnerabilities in Samsung phones with the Exynos chipset. There is no patch for the vulnerabilities at this time, so University staff must restrict their Samsung phones functionality until a patch becomes available.
Update 29 March: A patch that addresses these issues will be released in April according to Samsung.
At least the following Samsung models are equipped with the vulnerable chipset: Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S20 FE, Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, M33, M13, M12, A71 5G, A51 5G, A53, A33, A21s, A13, A12, A04, X60, X60 Pro and Xcover 5 series.
If you are using one of the Samsung models listed above:
- Disable WiFi calls by selecting Settings -> Connections and turning off the Wi-Fi Calling setting.
- Disable the VoLTE setting by selecting Settings -> Connections -> Mobile networks and disabling the setting.
- Install the software update as soon as it becomes available by selecting Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
