The Cubbli 22 operating system version will be available for installation on centrally managed university Linux computers as of Friday, 4 November 2022. You can easily install the upgrade yourself from the University Menu or ask our Linux upgrade team to run the upgrade for you.

The IT Center will install the upgrades gradually from January 2023 onwards on all university Linux computers that are still running earlier Cubbli versions. We will inform university staff about the detailed upgrade schedule later.

If you have an earlier than Cubbli 22 version on your university Linux computer:

  • You will receive a notification including upgrade instructions from the IT Center when the upgrade is available.
  • You can either install the upgrade yourself at any time or ask our Linux upgrade team to do it for you. Read the Cubbli operating system upgrade instructions.
  • Please note the following:
    • The computer must be plugged in to a power outlet and connected to the Internet over either a wired or wireless network.
    • The upgrade takes a little less than two hours on average. Please upgrade your system e.g. at the end of your working day.
    • Users are responsible for their own files. Before the upgrade, please backup your important files (including those in your home directory) to your network drive or e.g. an external hard drive.
    • Software that is not installed in your home directory will be removed during the upgrade.

If you have an old Linux computer that is no longer supported by the university’s centralized management:

Contact the person in charge of device purchases at your campus (e.g. the service coordinator). Support for Linux computers continues for 12 months from the warranty expiration date. You can check the warranty period from your University Menu by clicking Computer information.

  • If a new computer will be purchased for you, read the computer purchase instructions.
  • If your computer will be taken out of use, also read the IT recycling instructions. 97% of devices recovered for IT recycling are reused. In this way, we extend the life cycle of devices and reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. A longer life cycle also saves materials and reduces waste.

If you have any questions about the upgrade, please contact us by email: cubbli-upgrade@helsinki.fi

By keeping the University’s IT devices and systems up to date, we ensure the information security of the University staff and students, among other things. Thank you for upgrading!
