Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft Office 365 services (e.g. Outlook, Teams, OneDrive) will gradually become mandatory at the university during 2021. In University Services, Multifactor Authentication will become mandatory beginning 9 June 2021. MFA was introduced 26 May in HR Services. In addition to Office 365 services, MFA will be introduced later in other applicable university web services.

Multifactor Authentication means additional authentication when logging in to cloud services, either by mobile application or by phone. MFA will help us secure the user accounts of university staff and students more efficiently and safeguard information security at the university.

Please note! Multifactor Authentication is only required every 90 days or when logging in with new devices, so authentication does not unnecessarily burden your logging in to the university Office services.

If you work in University Services, specify your Multifactor Authentication methods well before the mandatory deployment on 9 June 2021:

  • Please specify your authentication methods at: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info. Follow the instructions on the page. Also read the Multifactor Authentication instructions.
  • We recommend adding at least two additional authentication methods. Note! Recommended authentication methods are the Microsoft Authenticator application and a phone call as an additional method. Download the Microsoft Authenticator application to your phone from your app store.
  • If you don't use Outlook, Multifactor Authentication may require changes to your e-mail application settings.
  • E-mail and calendar synchronization may stop working without any notifications in some applications. Make sure synchronization works after implementation. Many other apps also support the new login method, so removing and reinstalling your account might help.
