The Unix service will be shut down on 26 February

The Unix service of the University of Helsinki will be shut down on 26 February 2019 due to decreased use and management system obsolescence. In connection with the shut-down, all home and group files and old emails residing on the Unix server will be migrated to a new Linux home directory.

• Unix-based email (username@cc.helsinki.fi) will be discontinued and a new cloud-based Office 365 email account will be offered in its place. 
   
• Home directory-based email lists will also be discontinued. They can be replaced with distribution lists based on Majordomo or IAM groups.
   
• Home pages with the address www.helsinki.fi/~username will be redirected to a web-based home page directory service.
   
• SAS, Stata, Maple and many other special applications are available for installation on your own computer

IT Center will contact the users of these services directly by email before the shut-down to provide more detailed information and advice.
