Easier Windows and Office security updates starting in summer 2020

The IT Center will replace the installation service for Windows and Office security updates with a new system on university Windows computers gradually in summer 2020. Thanks to the new system, installing Windows and Office security updates will become easier on centrally maintained university Windows computers.

• The new installation system for Windows and Office information security updates installs on your computer automatically and requires no actions from the user. The system will be installed in the background without a separate notification.
• After the new system has been installed, university Windows 10 computers will show a notification of Windows and Office security updates above the taskbar on the bottom right of your screen.
• Going forward, you can choose a suitable time for installing Windows and Office information security updates and restarting your computer. If you do not update the computer yourself, the updates will be installed automatically. The system gives a separate notification of the need to restart the computer.
• Note that Windows and Office security updates require a system restart within 24 hours. Schedule the restart for a suitable time, and ensure that your work is not interrupted!
