An issue with the latest April Windows 10 update has caused a service break with the University’s AoVPN (Always on VPN) Device Tunnel. Due to the service break, home directories (Z: drive) are not automatically available on University Windows laptops. Your Z: drive home directory may be displayed with a green icon in File Explorer after the April Windows 10 update, but it will not work without a separate VPN connection.

The AoVPN Device Tunnel is a VPN connection established automatically before logging in to a University Windows laptop, and is primarily intended for facilitating the management of University Windows laptops and login processes. The service automatically gives you access to e.g. your Z: home directory on your University Windows laptop without the need for a separate VPN connection.

Please connect your Windows laptop with OpenVPN to access your home directory (Z: drive) after installing the April Windows update. You can use either the uh-vpn-allroute or uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only connectionSee IT Helpdesk OpenVPN instructions. We are currently resolving the issue.

Please note!

We strongly recommend that you install the latest Windows update from Software Center as soon as possible despite the AoVPN Devicer Tunnel service break. The update contains important IT security fixes. You will also receive a notification on your Windows laptop when the update is available for installation. Install the update at a suitable time, e.g. at the end of your workday. The update requires a restart and takes approximately 10 minutes.
