F-Secure Client Security for Mac will be replaced with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Mac computers under the University’s centralised administration as of 9 February due to information security reasons.
- The change does not require any action from you. However, if you wish, you can already install Microsoft Defender on your computer with Managed Software Center’s Update button as of 2 February. Installation takes only a few minutes and does not require restarting the computer.
- The centralised change will be made on the University’s Mac computers as of 9 February. At that point, F-Secure Client Security will be removed from the Mac computers and be replaced with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Mac.
- Please also note the announcement of the phasing out of old Mac computers by 31 January – Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Mac will only be installed on Mac computers with the latest operating systems (macOS 12 Monterey or later).
Why are we making this change?
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Mac enables the better detection of information security incidents on the University’s workstations as the program can be directly connected to our existing monitoring systems. This also enables faster responses to incidents and the more effective protection of the University staff’s and students’ data from new threats. At a later stage, a corresponding change will also be made on Windows computers under the University’s centralised maintenance.
