Logging in to Outlook email with old applications will end in October 2022 – keep your email application and mobile phone updated

Microsoft will disable the outdated email basic authentication in October 2022. Starting on 1 October 2022, this may prevent you from logging in to your Outlook email with an outdated mobile phone email application or with your work computer if you are using another e-mail application instead of the Outlook application.

Please note! The change does not affect your email usage if you are using the Outlook application, which is updated automatically on centrally maintained university computers, or if you use Outlook via browser through the Office 365 service.

Make sure your email works after 1 October 2022 as follows:

  • If you are using any application other than the Outlook email application or the Office 365 browser-based service on your mobile phone to read emails, please install the Outlook application from your phone’s application store. You can also try updating the email application you are using on your phone to the latest version. Please note that you can also access your inbox by logging in to the Office 365 service with your university credentials using a browser at: https://portal.office.com
  • If you are using a current generation mobile phone or an updated email application (other than Outlook) but still cannot log in, try deleting your university email account from the application and adding it again.
  • If you are using an outdated university mobile phone for reading your emails and cannot install current applications on the device, please see the phone purchase instructions in Flamma.
  • If you are using any application tother than the Outlook application on your work computer for reading emails (e.g. Thunderbird), please make sure you have the correct settings:

By keeping your applications updated you help us maintain information security at the university. Please remember to connect your work computer regularly to the university network for at least a few hours daily with either a VPN or wired connection to receive important updates from the university’s centralized administration for your work computer.
