Update 10 May 2023: The IT Center has prevented the use of old University Cubbli 18 computers centrally from Wednesday, 10 May onward. Centrally disabled Cubbli 18 computers will no longer stay powered on and will automatically shut down after startup. Please see instructions for removal below.
Old computers that are unsupported by device manufacturers will be removed from use at the University due to e.g. information security, as they no longer receive important information security updates.
If you are using an old University Linux Cubbli 18 computer that is no longer covered by central administration and/or on which a new operating system cannot be installed (Cubbli 22):
- You will receive an email from the IT Center with instructions on how to remove the computer from use. Support for Linux computers continues for 12 months from the warranty expiration date. You can check the warranty period in your University menu by clicking on Computer Info.
- If a new computer will be purchased for you, please read the instructions for purchasing computers and contact the person responsible for the equipment purchases at your campus (e.g. the service coordinator).
- Also read the IT recycling instructions. 97 percent of University devices sent to IT recycling are reused. This way we extend device life cycles as well as reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. A longer device life cycle also conserves materials and reduces produced waste.
By keeping University IT devices and systems updated, we maintain e.g. information security at the University.
