The University’s Cubbli 18 operating system is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the five-year support of which will end in April 2023. Please update your operating system to Cubbli 22 by 30 April 2023.

If you are running Cubbli 18 on your University Linux computer:

  • You will receive a notification and installation instructions when logging in when the upgrade is available. You can install the upgrade yourself at any time or ask our Linux upgrade team to do it for you. See Cubbli upgrade instructions.
  • If you are the main user on a University computer running Cubbli 18, you will also receive biweekly Cubbli 22 upgrade reminders to your email address from 1 February 2023 onward.
  • Before upgrading, please note the following:
    • Your computer must be plugged in and connected to the internet over a wired connection throughout the upgrade.
    • The upgrade takes a little less than two hours on average, so please upgrade at a convenient time (e.g. at the end of your working day).
    • Users are responsible for their own files. Please backup your important files (including those in your home directory) to your network drive or an external hard drive before beginning the upgrade.
    • Software that is not installed in the home directory will be removed during the upgrade.

If you are using an old Linux computer that is no longer centrally maintained by the University:

Contact the person in charge of device purchases on your campus (e.g. the service coordinator). Support for Linux computers continues for 12 months from the warranty expiration date. You can check the warranty period in your University Menu by clicking on Computer Info.

If you have any questions about the upgrade, please contact us by email: cubbli-upgrade@helsinki.fi

By keeping University devices and systems updated, we maintain e.g. information security at the University. Thank you for upgrading!
