The University of Helsinki IT Security Test is completed annually by all attending degree students and staff members. Test times are assigned based on your username. If you don’t complete the test by the deadline given to you, your user account is locked.

What is the University IT Security Test?

The University of Helsinki IT Security Test is designed to draw your attention to good practices and current issues related to information security. The short, annual test is mandatory for all attending degree students and staff members.

For staff members, the test has been in use for some time. For degree students, it was first introduced in February 2022.

The times for taking the test are staggered throughout the academic year, and are assigned based on the first letter of your username. The deadline for those at the start of the alphabets will be in January-February, and the deadline for those at the very end of the alphabets in November-December. Your turn is at the same time each year.

You will receive the first email notice of the approaching deadline two months before the due date. Several reminders will be sent after the first notice. The emails arrive from the address noreply@helsinki.fi.

You will also get notifications in Flamma and the Studies Service when your test deadline is approaching. The aim is to make sure that no one is left unaware of their own approaching deadline.

If you don’t complete the test by the due date, your user account is locked

Completing the test only takes about a quarter of an hour. When you receive the first notification of the approaching deadline, we recommend that you take the test at once.

If you don’t complete the test by the due date given in the first notice, your user account will be locked and you can no longer access any University services.

Should this happen, please contact the IT-Helpdesk (helpdesk@helsinki.fi) for further instructions. If you have another email address in use in addition to your University address, preferably contact the IT-Helpdesk by email. Please avoid using the feedback form of this website to submit queries related to your user account.
