The University will replace the previous Confluence-based wiki service (wiki.helsinki.fi) with the open-source XWiki service in 2024. The service change is due to costs as the current wiki service provider Atlassian will significantly increase the pricing of its products.
The IT Center will pilot the new XWiki service internally in summer 2023. We will inform University staff and students about the transition to the XWiki service and its deployment well in advance and specify the instructions during 2023 and 2024.
To make the transition to XWiki as easy as possible, we recommend that users of the current wiki service already do the following:
1. Remove outdated and unnecessary wiki pages and content from the service (wiki.helsinki.fi).
- You can delete individual pages and other components by clicking on the three dots at the top of the page and selecting Delete Page Tree.
- You can delete an entire space as follows. Please note that the pages in the space should be deleted first – otherwise it may take several hours to delete the space:
Go to the space settings by selecting Space Tools with the cog icon on the bottom left and select Overview -> Delete Space -> click OK. - Please note: You can also archive old wiki content that you want to keep. We will release instructions on archiving wiki content later in 2023.
2. Transfer all the pages and content that are primarily intended for internal use at the University and for cooperation between academic communities (Haka and eduGAIN federations) from the current wiki (wiki.helsinki.fi) to the Flamma workgroup area (https://workgroups.helsinki.fi/).
If you need any support in deleting or transferring pages, please contact IT Helpdesk:
