The University will replace the current Wiki (wiki.helsinki.fi) with the new open-source XWiki service in early 2024. The migration from Wiki to XWiki requires action from University staff due to the significant amount of Wiki material and largely outdated content.
Wiki content that needs to be transferred to XWiki must be marked for transfer by 31 October 2023, after which content migration to XWiki will begin. Like the current Wiki, XWiki is suitable for producing and managing content that must also be accessible from outside the University (without logging in to University services).
If you are responsible for Wiki pages or spaces intended for internal use within the University or for cooperation between higher education institutions (Haka and eduGAIN federations), we recommend that you migrate the content to the Flamma Workgroups (https://workgroups.helsinki.fi/) service well in advance. NB! This is an easier option than migrating content to XWiki, as after the migration you will need to edit the content yourself using the new platform’s formatting.
Please do the following as soon as possible:
- Transfer your current Wiki content suitable for Flamma Workgroups (intended for the University’s internal use/cooperation involving higher education institutions) to Flamma Workgroups. See the IT Helpdesk instructions for migrating Wiki content to Flamma Workgroups.
- If you are unsure about the most suitable platform for your current Wiki content (e.g. Workgroups or Instructions for students), check the IT Helpdesk instructions for tips on choosing a publishing location.
- Delete old Wiki content that is no longer needed. See IT Helpdesk instructions for deleting Wiki spaces how to remove Wiki spaces.
- If you wish, you can easily archive your old Wiki content – see the IT Helpdesk instructions for archiving Wiki content.
- Mark the Wiki content you want to transfer to XWiki by Tuesday 31 October 2023. This will ensure your Wiki content is moved directly to XWiki in the migration. See IT Helpdesk instructions on marking Wiki content for transfer. NB! Unmarked Wiki content will not be transferred to XWiki!
You can search for your Wiki spaces (wiki.helsinki.fi) by filtering the content by owner (Contributor) and content type (Type). Please note that search results may also include Wiki spaces owned by other contributors, as Wiki spaces often have several editors:
