Service for the development of customised applications needed by the University and University staff and students, for which no product is offered by commercial producers. When the application development service is deployed, a plan is drawn up for managing the entire life cycle of the system to be implemented. Application maintenance covers application bug fixes, minor modifications and potentially larger development needs.
The IT Center’s application development service implements applications requiring knowledge of universities and the University’s IT environment. The service is intended for the special needs of the University of Helsinki for the development of applications for which no products are available from commercial producers. Application development, documentation and instructions are always done in cooperation with the client. The client is the owner of the finished application. The owner is responsible for the system and is involved in its maintenance and development throughout its life cycle. The development of the applications to be implemented is prioritised in the work queue and implementation usually does not start immediately after the work is ordered.

The client is responsible for and owns the service to be developed. The client appoints a person in charge (typically a product owner) who participates in specification, prioritisation and assessment throughout the project in cooperation with the team responsible for the implementation of the application. The product owner carries out acceptance testing and is responsible for application user support and training after the deployment. After the development project, the system owner and the person in charge (e.g. product owner) are responsible for the life cycle management and user support of the application.
Documentation and instructions for the application are prepared as agreed.
