Short description

Information desks located on campuses which provide the opportunity for the verification of identity for phone contacts to the Helpdesk when confidential information is required. Useful in matters related to the user account, for example.

Service description

ID Point identification is used, for example, when dealing with the Helpdesk in matters requiring a strong authentication. A user account to the University’s systems is required for using this service.

ID Point identification is a two-phase process. The first phase includes a personal visit to an ID Point service desk. Such information desks can be found at various locations around the University. After the identity of the user has been verified at the information desk, the user is provided with an ID Point identification code which can be used in actual contacts with the Helpdesk phone service, for example, or when authenticating oneself in the online self-service tools.

How to take the service into use

The identification code required for ID Point identification can be obtained by visiting an ID Point identification point. Such points can be found at all campuses and in many remote locations (https://helpdesk.it.helsinki.fi/en/instructions/logging-and-connections/user-account/id-point). A passport, an identity card of the Schengen region or an European driving licence is required for the identification. The service checks the ID Point identification code provided by the user against the personal data found in the system. If the information matches, the service needed by the user may be implemented. A user account and password to the University’s information systems may be delivered to the user, for example. To obtain a new ID Point identification point or a service provider connection, the client unit should contact the Helpdesk (https://helpdesk.it.helsinki.fi/en).

Responsibilities

The IT Center is responsible for the operation of the ID Point system and for providing access to it from the allowed computers. The ID Point clerk is responsible for checking the identity of the end user visiting the identification point. The service provider is responsible for checking that the name provided matches the name saved in the ID Point code.
