Short description

Wireless connections to the internet and the university’s network services.

Service description

The university uses two wireless networks; the university’s international eduroam network and HUPnet, which may also be used by users of the Finnish HAKA network. Of these two, eduroam is the preferred option because it offers better information security, among other things. Eduroam is also used in many partner universities where university users can log into the eduroam network using their own university user account.

HUPnet works in almost all university areas, and it can also be used with a network cable in some properties. HUPnet can be used with the university user account and limited user account. HUPnet is an unencrypted network.

How to take the service into use

Using the university’s wireless networks requires a valid user account.

Log in to eduroam using the university’s user account in the format username@helsinki.fi. Eduroam users of other universities log in using the user account of their own university.

Use a University of Helsinki user account or limited user account or a HAKA user account to log in to HUPnet in the browser.

The eduroam profile is presinstalled in the university’s computers included in the centralised administration. You have to install the eduroam profile on your own personal computer yourself.

The user must follow the terms of use of the university’s information systems. The terms of use can be found at https://www.helsinki.fi/en/it/terms-of-use-and-privacy-policy-of-it-services
