More information from detailed help
If you need more information or help regarding installation, please contact the Microsoft Office support.
If this is your first Office suite, you can start by launching the installation. However, if you already use an older version of Office, you must start by uninstalling it (Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program).
This opens the Office 365 home page. On the home page, you can view the software covered by your license, the number of installed software and the number of remaining licences. On this page, you can also deactivate a valid licence on a computer, which will make the licence available again and allow you to install the software on another computer.
Click on Install Office 2016 (1) or, if you want to change the default language of the installed Office suite, Other installations (2).
The default Office language suggested during the installation is the language used in OWA. See the instructions on changing the language settings in OWA.
After selecting the language and the version (32/64 bit), click Install. The view will depend on the browser:
Save the installation package on your computer or run the installation. If you choose to save the file, you will usually find it in the Downloads folder.
When you run the package, you are first asked for the administrator rights. Please enter the administration password of your own computer.
Follow the step-by-step installation instructions.
When you receive a notification that you may start using Office, the installation is about ready... All done!
You can now launch software included in the Office Suite on the Start menu.
NB Mac users! When you log in to Mac’s Office for the first time, the application asks for a licence. To provide the licence, log in using the University of Helsinki Office 365 user account, email@example.com.
The account for Raimo Keski-Vääntö (rkeskiva), for example, is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your Office 365 home page will look slightly different when you first open it after installing Office:
The Manage installs view shows you the computers on which you have installed the Office suite and the number of remaining licences. In the same view, you can deactivate the licence of another computer, for example, if you have uninstalled the program from the computer in question. In this case, the licence will become available to another computer.
You can also install the Office suite to other devices and systems on the same page by clicking Office on your devices.
