Change to management of Windows servers and workstations in research

30.04.2018 - 09:05
Updated

The latest Microsoft update causes a change to the remote access of Windows servers and workstations that are commonly in use, for example, in laboratories. The change does not affect normal users of Windows workstations.

Examples of Remote Desktop protocol connections are remote desktop connections from the Windows workstation in the researcher’s office to the Windows workstations that control measuring devices located in a laboratory. If the control workstation has not had the Windows updates, it will no longer be able to establish a remote connection with the Remote Desktop protocol after the change.

The solution to the change is updating the laboratory workstation. Without the update obsolete and insecure remote access protocols can no longer be used. If you know that you are using this kind of control workstation, please contact Helpdesk (https://helpdesk.it.helsinki.fi/en/help/7000) to arrange the update.
