The IT Center will upgrade Office 2016 software for university centrally maintained Mac computers to Office 2019/365 in October 2020. This is an information security upgrade due to the ending of support for Office 2016. The upgrade requires that you have the macOS Mojave (10.14) or the macOS Catalina (10.15) operating system installed on your university Mac computer.

  • If you are using a university Mac computer, its Office 2016 software will be upgraded to the Office 2019 version in October.
  • The upgrade will be installed automatically if you have the macOS Mojave (10.14) or the macOS Catalina (10.15) operating system installed on your university Mac computer. If necessary, you can also upgrade the operating system of your computer through Managed Software Center. The computer must be connected to the university’s wired network for this.
  • The upgrade replaces the existing Office 2016 applications (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word) with new Office 2019/365 applications. The existing Office applications must be closed during the upgrade.
  • When Office 2019/365 has been upgraded on your computer, you must log in to one of the following applications using your university username the first time you log in to your computer: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint or Word.
  • After the upgrade, you should log in to use the Office applications to get the most out of the software. If you are using a Mac computer with a general username and need a computer-specific Office licence, contact the Helpdesk (helpdesk@helsinki.fi) after the upgrade.
