The university staff Windows 10 computers must be updated to the latest 20H2 version, because support for the previous versions is about to end. The update will become gradually available for Windows 10 computers between 14 and 28 February 2022.

You will receive an update notification on your university Windows 10 computer when the update is available. Please install the update well in advance before the deadline shown in the update notification. If you do not initiate the update, it will be available in Software Center after you receive the notification. You can also install the update when working from home without a VPN connection.

Any university Windows 10 computers that have not been updated by the deadline indicated in the update message will be updated by the IT Center during the winter and spring of 2022.

  • Start the update at the end of your workday once you have received the update notification on your computer. Depending on your device, the update will take approximately 60–120 minutes, but it could take even longer. You will not be able to use the computer during the update. Read IT Helpdesk Windows 10 update instructions.
  • Before you start the update, make sure you have saved your work and that the power cable is plugged in. Makes sure that any additional university Windows 10 computers in your use are also updated.
  • Different views will be displayed on your screen during the update. The screen will also turn off for long periods at a time. This is to be expected, and the update is running in the background. Wait patiently until the update process is completed.
  • The update is complete when you see the Windows 10 login screen and an “Upgrade Successful” message after opening the login screen by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.
  • You can check your Windows 10 version after the update as follows: press the Windows key on your keyboard -> write “winver” and press enter -> a message opens -> check that the message reads: “Microsoft Windows, Version 20H2”:

Thank you for running the update. By keeping university systems and software updated, we safeguard e.g. information security at the university.
