Question: Can I use any characters and character sets in the descriptions of Unitube videos?
Answer: Unitube cannot process the Cyrillic alphabet or other foreign character sets. As for special characters, the per cent sign is not displayed correctly. It is advisable to circumvent these restrictions by writing out any characters that are not displayed in the description field.
Question: My recording is not visible even though I have published it! What could be the reason for this?
Are you sure you have added the recording to a public collection or a collection shared with a link? The recordings inherit their publicity settings from the collections. If you added the recording to a public collection, there may sometimes be a delay of more than half an hour before it appears in the public video gallery on the Helsinki.fi website (in Unitube Viewer). So, please wait a moment first!
Question: I tried to upload a recording but got an error message, or the file just doesn't seem to be processing correctly. What should I do?
Please first try to reupload it. If that doesn't work, try saving it with slightly different settings: you could try a different file format or an entirely different editor. If you are trying to upload a video on an older Mac, try saving the video file in a program called Handbrake before saving the file to Unitube Uploader.
Question: Is it possible to edit (cut) videos in Unitube Uploader?
Answer: Unitube does not support video editing. You need to always edit your videos first and only then publish them by using Unitube Uploader. The University of Helsinki offers everyone the Screenpal software for light editing and subtitling.
Question: How many videos or other recordings can I upload to Unitube?
Answer: Unitube does not have any restrictions on how many videos you can upload to the service. If you have dozens or hundreds of video recordings you wish to upload to the server, please contact the Unitube administrators by e-mail (unitube@helsinki.fi) before using the Unitube Uploader to upload them. The administrators may be able to automate the uploading of large quantities of video recordings.
Question: What about copyrights and other similar rights when I upload my video or audio recording to Unitube?
Answer: Use of Unitube Uploader requires the user to act in a responsible manner and pay attention to intellectual property rights. The same applies to the Unitube system itself.
