OpenVPN connections HY-VPN and HY-TUN for Mac and Cubbli computers will be disabled on 8 Dec 2021 – use the new connections

01.12.2021 - 13:49

The university’s old OpenVPN connections HY-VPN and HY-TUN for Mac and Cubbli computers will no longer be available from Wednesday, 8 December 2021. The IT Center launched the new uh-vpn-allroute and uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only connections in spring 2021. See the previous announcement about changes to OpenVPN connections for Macs and the previous announcement about changes to connections for Cubbli computers.

Use the new uh-vpn-allroute and uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only OpenVPN connections to establish a connection on your Mac or Cubbli computer that is under the university’s central administration. Read the OpenVPN instructions for the university’s Macs (connected with Tunnelblick, the OpenVPN version for Macs) and the VPN instructions for Cubbli computers (Detailed help tab).

With the new connections, we will improve information security at the university, increase the existing VPN capacity, and streamline the administration and management of computers under the university’s centralised administration.

  • uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only is equivalent to the soon-to-be-disabled HY-TUN connection. This is the recommended way to establish a VPN connection, which reduces the communication load on the university network. Only traffic to the University of Helsinki passes through the VPN. Traffic outside the university goes directly to the destination, which speeds up connections outside the university.
  • uh-vpn-allroute is equivalent to the HY-VPN connection. All traffic passes through the VPN. Please note! Use the uh-vpn-allroute connection for the university’s library materials!
