We are restoring the printing service on university Windows 10 computers with an update released by Microsoft. The printing service has been temporarily unavailable during the summer due to a Microsoft security vulnerability. The update will gradually become available for university Windows 10 computers starting from Monday, 16 August 2021.
- You will be notified on your Windows 10 computer when the update is available. Please install the update as soon as you receive the notification in order to use the university printing service. The update requires a VPN connection – read IT Helpdesk VPN instructions.
-
You can speed up returning the printing service on your Windows 10 computer as follows (requires a VPN connection):
1. Open your computer’s Self-Service page.
2. Go to the Manage your computers section.
3. Open the Select option menu.
4. Select the Refresh SCCM policies option. Installing the settings will take some time – please wait until the settings have been installed.
- Before installing the update, you can temporarily turn on printing for an hour or ten minutes at a time on your university Windows 10 computer with a solution implemented by the IT Center. Read detailed temporary printing instructions in the previous bulletin.
The update released by Microsoft does not fully resolve the information security issue caused by the vulnerability, and we have therefore implemented more strict printing policies on university Windows 10 computers. As a result of the changes, printing issues may arise in special situations. The university IT Helpdesk will help you with any problems:
- Chat (weekdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.): helsinki.fi/helpdesk
- Phone (weekdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.): +358 (0)29 415 5555 (mobile charge/local network rate)
- Email: helpdesk@helsinki.fi
We apologise to the university staff and students for any inconvenience caused by the Microsoft vulnerability.
