The IT Center will renew the OpenVPN service by replacing the university's OpenVPN connections on Windows and Cubbli computers with new uh-vpn allroute and uh-vpn helsinkifi-only connections. The new OpenVPN connections will replace the old hy- and hy-tun connections from Thursday 30 September 2021 onwards.
As of 30 September 2021, you can connect to OpenVPN on your university Windows or Cubbli computer using the new connections. The new OpenVPN settings are automatically updated to the Windows and Linux computers under the university's centralised maintenance. The new connections were made available for university Mac computers earlier in 2021.
The new connections enable us to improve the university's information security, further increase the existing VPN capacity, and streamline the maintenance and management of centrally maintained university computers.
- uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only corresponds to the old hy-tun connection. This is the recommended way to form a VPN connection, which reduces the communication load on the university’s network. Only traffic to the University of Helsinki passes through the VPN connection. Traffic outside the university goes directly to the destination, which speeds up connections outside the university.
- uh-vpn-allroute corresponds to the old hy connection. All traffic passes through the VPN connection. Please note! Use the uh-vpn-allroute connection for the university’s library materials!
