The IT Center upgraded the university OpenVPN service with the new uh-vpn-allroute and uh-vpn-helsinkifi-only connections during 2021, replacing the old hy and hy-tun connections (HY-VPN and HY-TUN connections on Macs). The old OpenVPN connections will be permanently disabled on 31 October 2022.

The new HelsinkiUni network supports your work as the connection is made automatically and you do not have to sign in separately with your university credentials as with e.g. the eduroam network. Also, because HelsinkiUni is linked to university devices, not individual users, you do not have to sign in to the network again or install a new profile when taking the network into use or when your university password changes.

If the old hy and hy-tun (Windows) or HY-VPN/HY-TUN (Mac) connections have still appeared under the OpenVPN icon on your taskbar or mobile device, you have probably used the connections on your home computer or another device that is not centrally maintained by the university.

You will receive an email with instructions from the IT Center if our logs indicate that you have been using the old OpenVPN connections between 22 August and 16 September 2022. You can already begin using the new connections by following the instructions below.
