The University of Helsinki has several wireless networks:

Please note! The HelsinkiUni network is visible on the list of wireless networks on all devices at university campuses but only works on centrally managed university staff Windows laptops (automatically). This means you cannot connect to the network using your university credentials on e.g. Mac laptops or smartphones. Also, for security reasons, the network does not unfortunately work in the so-called research workstations (the names of the computers start with LSx-).

HelsinkiUni

HelsinkiUni is a universal network maintained by the University of Helsinki and used by the University’s centrally administered Windows workstations. No separate login is required. The network will be automatically available when the settings have been installed on the computer.

The HelsinkiUni network's coverage is largely the same as that of eduroam, with a few exceptions:

  • Biomedicum in Meilahti
  • Oral and Dental Centre in Meilahti
  • Viikki Teacher Training School and Helsinki Normal Lyseum

Eduroam

Eduroam is the international wireless network for staff, students and members of the eduroam network.  The network can be accessed with the geteduroam application. You can log in to universities and educational institutions around the world with the same University username.

Visit eduroam.org to find out where eduroam works

How to connect to eduroam with different equipment

Download configuration files for mobile devices and Windows from the geteduroam site.

HelsinkiUni Guest network

The guest network is mainly intended for temporary use for users who do not have University credentials or access to the eduroam network. The network can also be used to install eduroam on your own terminal device.
