Centrally managed computers and mobile phones at the University

Staff at the University of Helsinki have access to Windows, Mac and Cubbli computers, as well as Android and iPhone mobile devices. The IT Centre manages these centrally.

This landing page contains links to instructions for centrally managed computers and phones.

Computers for personal use

University staff can obtain a Windows, Mac or Cubbli computer for their personal work use. The service includes the purchase of the computer, set-up, basic applications, support during use and decommissioning of the computer. You log in to the computer using your own user account.

Mobile devices

Mobile phones owned by the University of Helsinki are also managed centrally. This provides additional security for the use of work mobile phones.

If IT Helpdesk’s instructions do not help, please refer to the phone manufacturer’s instructions.

How to safely charge your device

  1. Use the device’s own intact charger only.
  2. Charge devices under supervision, not at night, for example.
  3. Put the device on a non-flammable surface when charging it.
  4. Stop using the device immediately if you notice any warning signs of battery failure, such as abnormal heat, battery bulge or battery smell. For example, a dent in the device may damage the battery.
  5. If you notice any of the above signs on your device, stop using it immediately and notify the IT Helpdesk.

Travel devices

If you are going on a business trip to a country where, according to the university’s guidelines, you are not permitted to take standard work equipment with you for data protection reasons, you can request travel devices from IT Helpdesk.

Shared computers

Computers in classrooms and computers available for loan from the Laptop Lender are shared computers.
