Student of the Open university

Open University students are granted a University of Helsinki user ID. The ID is used when logging in to shared computers or university systems such as Moodle (virtual learning environment) or Sisu (credit registration system).

Open University students who have acquired their university user ID before February 2017 and who do not have a university email can request a university email address from the IT Helpdesk, if necessary.

Logging in to university services

  • The short form username (for example, rkeskiva) is used to log in to the password change service helsinki.fi/password.
  • Services that are logged in to using login.helsinki.fi are logged in using the form username@ad.helsinki.fi (for example, rkeskiva@ad.helsinki.fi).
  • Eduroam credentials username@helsinki.fi (for example, rkeskiva@helsinki.fi).

NB! Your email will be in the format firstname.surname@helsinki.fi (for example raimo.keski-vaanto@helsinki.fi) though the login is done with the form username@ad.helsinki.fi.

Open university students activate their user ID online using their bank credentials, a mobile certificate or an electronic ID card.

If online activation is not possible, you can apply for an account by filling in a form.

Please note while fillling in the application form to apply for an Open university account:

    • Please provide an external email address, as this is the address to which the IT-Helpdesk will send information about creating a new ID and instructions on how to access the ID.
    • Choose "study" as your role. In the contact details field, please indicate the course you are enrolling in and the course instructor.
    • In the justification, add "Open university student".
    • For open university students, the ID will be created at the earliest one week before the start of the course!

For more detailed instructions on how to fill in the form, please read the separate Helpdesk guide.

Open university students are not entitled to access control badges to study facilities.
