Logging in to university services

  • You can log in to nearly all university services using the standard format: username (for example, rkeskiva)
  • eduroam credentials: username@helsinki.fi (for example, rkeskiva@helsinki.fi
  • Microsoft 365 credentials: username@ad.helsinki.fi (for example, rkeskiva@ad.helsinki.fi)

NB! Your email will be in the format firstname.surname@helsinki.fi (for example raimo.keski-vaanto@helsinki.fi)

Connections from outside the University

The use of some of the University’s online services is limited to the university network for licence-related reasons. These services include the databases and electronic journals offered by the library. To use these services on a computer outside the university network, you are required to establish a secure connection between your home computer and the university server.

The most common technology for establishing such a connection is VPN (Wikipedia). To use a VPN connection, you need a valid university username. Check the installation instructions for different operating systems.

Of course, you can change your password more often for information security reasons.

Update your Zoom application to the latest version – old versions will stop working on 23 January 2025

The University Zoom service provider NORDUnet strongly recommends updating Zoom applications to version 6.3.0 or newer. The update has already been installed on most University computers. The University of Helsinki IT Center will prevent the use of earlier Zoom versions from Thursday 23 January 2025.

Change to external eduroam logins from 21 January 2025 – download new eduroam settings if needed

A change that affected the username format for the University’s internal eduroam login service was implemented in spring 2024. Due to the change, eduroam has since required full University usernames (including the @helsinki.fi suffix) in the format ‘rkeskiva@helsinki.fi’ when logging in. External eduroam logins will also require full University usernames beginning from 21 January 2025.

Change to external username creation in the University Wiki service from 20 January 2025

The creation of external Wiki service (wiki.helsinki.fi) usernames will change on 20 January 2025. Creating external usernames in the Wiki service will require an invitation from a user with a University username. The change will be implemented due to information security.

Wiki service break on 8 January 2025 from 7 to 8 AM

A maintenance break will occur in the University Wiki service (wiki.helsinki.fi) on 8 January 2025 from 7 to 8 AM. During the maintenance break we will update links and addresses that still refer to the old Wiki service. The old Wiki service was discontinued in 2024.
